SOLD (1907) Hecla Baby Hec £300

’Baby Hec’ a rare Hecla teddy bear circa 1907, with blonde mohair, clear and black glass eyes, pronounced muzzle, brown stitched nose, mouth and five claws, swivel head, jointed elongated limbs with felt pads and skinny legs, hump and inoperative squeaker —10 1/4in. (26cm.) high (sparse mohair, slight damage to pad and brown stitching) - Hecla only produced bears for two years 1907-1908.

This company began making bears to be Americas answer to the successful German Steiff bear. The company made their bears to be almost identical to Steiff bears, they even imported the mohair from Germany! Yet, the company did not advertise much and was out of business in two years. These adorable and handsome bears are very hard to find!
