A wonderful early 'cork' stuffed Chad Valley teddy bear dating from the early 1900s.This sweet faced early Chad Valley teddy bear, stands at 15" tall and is five ways jointed with all her joints working smoothly. She is unusual in that she is cork stuffed, which Chad Valley used to fill very early bears in their experimental years, during the 1915-20's. She has had a little bit of professional restoration work by the wonderful 'Dot Bird' which included recovering all four pads with vintage cotton, adding a few nose stitches and re-securing one her ears but she is otherwise in original condition and sturdy condition. You can see from the photos what a wonderful character she is and she has a fantastic profile with a prominent shaved muzzle, barrel shaped tummy with long arms for her size. She has a very good coverage of her pale straw coloured mohair with slight overall thinning, but I would estimate she has still retained approximately 90% coverage overall. She also has four claw stitches on each paw and five on each pad and a non working press growler in her tummy. Her nose has a horizontal top stitch across the vertically stitched triangular nose, typical of Chad Valley bears and her original amber glass eyes. She displays beautifully and has a charming and expressive face.
